    39 wonderful years

Bought my 1963 Marauder S-55 39 years ago TODAY

    https://sites.google.com/a/wmich.edu...rs/3z68g516447

Will do a celebratory drive in a while, adding to the 63,000 I've already put on it.

It was worth $325 39 years ago. Wonder what it's worth now

    Kirk,
Did you ever determine the Mercury dealer who originally sold the '63 Marauder?
Was it sold new in Hawaii !?
Maybe another person in the Navy had it shipped over to Hawaii...?

Don't know who sold it new or how it ended up in HI

There was a black/black one just like it that sold new in the Chicago area

I suspect that these sold at auction much like the 2003 4PP cars. Many bought by dealers to be sold as new I suspect

Just one of the many mysteries that go with the car

Let me tag onto this thread and give a HUGE thank you to all of you who have purchased gen-4 Marauders. If it wasn't for the interest in that car since it came out I don't think anyone but a rare few would even know what a Marauder is in 2020

You folks have made my old car notable

What do you consider the 4 generations, as the first 3 years all looked somewhat different, 69 and 70 look the same with minor differences and '03 and '04 nearly the same?

    1963-4
    1965
    1969-70
    2003-4

    The '65s are distinctly different

You've got to get Wiki to change their Gen 1 - Gen 3 designations!

    Can't keep everyone in line

The ONLY THING the 63-4 and the 65 have in common is drive trains. Suspension, body, interiors are all different. I'd say that makes it a different generation

The 1965 frame is also different from the 1963-4. The 1965 frame has a problem with rust, much more than the earlier frame. That's one of the reasons that despite accounting for half of all Marauders ever built you still don't see many.

    So Kirk,
    At a local C&C I have seen a white 1966 Mercury S-55 428/4 speed.
IIRC...I posted pictures of it some years ago.
    Is that not a Marauder?

That is not a Marauder. It is an S-55. 1966-7 were the only 2 years the S-55 carried no other name like Monterey or Marauder. It was the Mercury 7 Litre Galaxie. That's why they all had 428s.

Of course in the S-55 that's a Super Marauder 428. That causes a lot of the confusion
