Mallory Dual Point - Input Voltage??

This 55 Tbird I'm working on measures 6 volts going to the coil. Sound correct?? It tries to start..... It has been converted to 12v at some point in its life.

Coil resistance?? Can the capacitor be measured??

I plan to install a HEI type distributor, maybe sooner than later!!

Cars changed from 6v to 12v in 1955 so you could have either.

The 6v at the coil - is it at crank or run?

Should be 12v in crank & around 8v in run as the run circuit is resisted.

Was your 6v reading with engine running or off?

Does the battery have 3 cells or 6?

Grainger does sell a audible capacitor tester, i have it and it works great.
The non hei will have a resistor cutting voltage down to 8 volts since the car has a 12 volt system.
Clean the points and set them, it might just be no fuel, gummed up. Heck, maybe out of gasoline too.
