Time to do guides and tensioners

They rattle for about 4 minutes on startup so I guess it’s time to fix it. Only have one question though. Legend has it, you can get the timing cover off without removing the valve covers? Saw this thread and was intrigued: https://www.mercurymarauder.net/foru...t=Timing+cover

What I hope to do is remove the fan assembly, remove the serpentine belt and accessories, unbolt the cover, and swap the guides and tensioners. Thoughts?

Do all gaskets, the cam covers and intake gaskets I recommend. Don't cut corners. Do it right!

It’s getting a motor in a few years and none of the gaskets are even seeping. Cutting corners and not wasting time are two very different things man. But I see where you’re coming from, thanks for the quick reply.

Anything worth doing is worth overdoing, your gaskets don’t leak now, guaranteed they will after moving things around.

To do the job you need to lift the cam covers in the front, so they should be replaced. The timing cover gaskets obviously need to be replaced and while you have everything apart, I would recommend changing the oil filter adapter gasket, it’s going to fail, it’s not an if but a when.
