yes I believe so....however the lower hose does not seem to be pressurized and is never as hot as the other hoses...I believe thats normal though..I could be wrong. Is there a possibility that the fan could be bad? It spins when the temp rises..but I read somewhere that that doesnt mean its doing its job.

It can take more than one burping procedure.. Are you following the steps in the stickied post here in the forum? Replace the cap in overflow tank..(degaussing) if it overheats when accelerating, seems like air pocket preventing flow to me. Is stat installed in correct position?

It looks like your Murray thermostat is identified as a Marauder tstat but a number of posts and acknowledgements identify this tstat as being correct

    Motorcraft RT1085

You may want to try another tstat (the Murray is bad?).

Try running without the thermostat I've done that before. and i always back feel mine from the cross over tube. slowly fill it. I never have had to burp it when I do it that way. If it still overheats without a thermostat and your radiator fan is working. I would look for a head gasket test kit.

If the car ran fine before you worked on it the problem is most likely related to something you did. IIRC the Marauder thermostat has a hole it it to allow coolant to flow all the time to some degree. Did the replacement T-stat have that hole? If it did it sounds like there is still air in the system somewhere.

The hole is to allow air thu it when filling system. This is why when installing in a vertical application the hole (or sometimes a little dangely valve) has to be in the 12 o'clock position.

So just guessing, you never verified if your cap was holding pressure? As hard as it is to believe, this system requires pressure for the cooling system to work, no pressure, no cooling, but it’s at the dealer, they’ll figure it out for you.

Does it have the bypass? Should be a hole near the spring.

"Beware of aftermarket companies who sell the same thermostat for all Ford modular engines. Those units are designed for the 2V SOHC engine and, if installed in the improper housing, will be unable to shut off the bypass- allowing hot coolant to recirculate back into the engine at all times, reducing the efficiency of your cooling system.
