Want to bet the stealership can't fix it either?

I think it's either the wrong stat or it was installed up side down.

I say wrong T-stat. Stealership and Goodyear couldn't figure mine out either when I had the wrong T-stat in. Only reason I even went aftermarket was because everyone said Motorcraft had to be ordered. At first I didn't want to wait. Eventually I went ahead and did the wait and bought a Motorcraft one shipped to me. Once the Motorcraft was in, never had a problem since.

I'm sure some aftermarket ones work, but it's a matter of getting the right one with the bypass. Even looking at the pictures on RockAuto, most of them listed don't have the hole and I see some listed with the same part number for the SOHC which I know is not correct.

Ok guys, I have good news and bad news. Good news is that is was the wrong thermostat. The stealership replaced my murray with a motorcraft and the car is no longer overheating. BAD NEWS!! the service rep called and said my car was ready but it was "running rough". I picked it up and now the engine is making a high pitch knocking noise and the car shakes in idle and in 1st gear. Any clue on what these idiots could have done to my baby?

    My guess:
Service tech took the Marauder 'for a test drive' (Lots of WOT) while it still had the overheating problem, and did damage to #7 or #8 cylinders/valves.

Is it throwing any CEL codes?

Bad COP or plug will cause a rough idle.

See if you can get them to do a compression test or a leak down test for free.... because the problem started since the car was in their Service Dept.

That would be good news....the coil packs do go bad and are relatively inexpensive to replace.

I like Motorcraft Sp505 copper plugs and I would go with Ford Motorsport pack of 8 COP’s for 4V engines like Mustang Mach 1 or Gt500 for around $200 depending where you purchase
