    Spark plug guts blew out.

Well had a new one I think. At least I have not heard of it happening yet. Was driving it in to get the rear tint repaired and passed a car on a two lane road. Next thing I know it starts running rough. I went ahead to the shop and monitored it to see what it would do. I only noticed the roughness at idle, accelerating or going uphill. It still did it after picking it up at the shop. I did some online investigating and figured it was a bad plug or a bad COP. I ordered a set of COPs and spark plugs. When i got them and started to change them I lucked out (if you want to call it that) when I started on the passenger side. I pulled the cover off and noticed discoloring and a little oil at the back. When i got the cover off the back COP looked funny so when I lifted it up it came out in pieces. When I finally got all the rubber pieces out the spark plug looked crooked. So I got my long extractor out and finally grabbed it and pulled it out. It was just the guts of the spark plug. The nut and bent lead part was still in the head. There was oil all over the place in the hole and the back part of the head. I cleaned it up and installed all the plugs and new COPs. Started the car and it still ran bad. So I grabbed one of the old plugs and COPs and plugged it into the rear connector and started the car. No spark. So I plugged it into the next plug connector up and it sparked. Apparently one of the wires got broken when the plug guts were being shot around in the hole. Hopefully I have the parts now to fix it. I ordered a new connector with wires on it and some solder sleeves. Now I just have to get up the gumption to go out and try and fix it. Wish me luck.

Was the plug that went poof original from new, or was it a replacement you did sometime in the past?

Glad to hear you are getting it sorted.

The plug was original factory with only 52,000 miles on it.

Plugs do seem to have a life span.
I installed a nice set of nickle plated plugs in my boat in 2000. they were 350 Chevy motors. Can't remember what brand probably AC. I would check them over the years and they always looked and ran just fine.
In 2016 One of the plugs blew out the ceramics. In 2017 another plug did the same. So two of 16 went over 16 years.

Is plugs blowing out their ceramics a symptom of a broken land ring?

Broken piston pieces can beat spark plus and valves to the point the plug could break up....I guess??

Mine just beat the gap shut on #7 causing a misfire...but I didn't run it but a minute or so to get home!!
