    2003 M.M.

Doe's anyone know correct name for the gas safety cut out mounted on the left side of trunk, (in event of accident it cuts off fuel supply), my car wouldn't start the other day, but started after being towed for 20 miles, mechanic thinks the control may have been reset by being towed?.

I'm not sure if the inertial switch can be reset just by towing the vehicle.
Also, it takes a pretty big hit to make it kick 'OFF'.

It might be the fuel pump itself is getting stuck....really!
My Marauder would sit sometimes for so long that when I keyed it 'ON' to crank the engine the fuel pump would not run and pump.
I couldn't hear it humming/priming before cranking the engine over.
A simple bump on the fuel tank with a rubber mallet with the key 'ON' ..... and I could hear the pump crank up and start humming again.
Then my Marauder would start like a charm.
This happened to me multiple times.

Fuel pump inertia switch.. doubtful it is bad. Many other possibilities..fuel pump, fuel pump driver module. Need more info, background as to why towed, symptoms, etc.

My fuel pump would shut off when hot. When it cooled down, it would start, until it wouldn’t.
Replaced fuel pump in the end.

Parked the car, went shopping for about a half an hour, car wouldn't start, very little response to possibly catching, actually just the week before, I had a new fuel tank
installed, new fuel pump, fuel filter, the inertia "button" was in the down position. tank had minor leak, so I replaced it. I had it towed to my mechanic.

Highly doubtful it's the inertia switch. You have to manually press the button to reset it.

Could also be the fuel pump relay in the power distribution box under the hood. It's #203. these cars are getting older and sometimes the relays get "tired" or the contacts get corroded. Easy and cheap to replace. In a pinch you can swap it with #201 (horn).

Does the car crank? Can you hear the fuel pump prime? Check the above, as well as the fuel rail pressure sensor.

Do all the buttons not work?

Check fuses: #7 (10A), #16 (15A), #19(15A) in the passenger compartment fuse box.

Check fuse: #8(20A) in the power distribution box under the hood behind the battery.

As the keyless entry gets old, you may have to press the numbers extra hard.
Check at night to see if the inside light goes on when you hit a number. If it goes on, it works. I sometimes use the edge of my key.
