What a piston ring is doing in the valley is beyond me, but I'm sure it is an interesting mess inside the crank case.

That is quite the explosion Joe. Had a 351w blow up on the road & was amazed to see lifters & pushrods falling out after the cloud of smoke dissipated. When I got it home half the camshaft was sticking out of the side of the oil pan which blew the starter right off the engine.

Oh boy. Now I found a hunk of Main Bearing material in the valley. ****, this is going to cost me. I hope the heads are OK, but I am suspecting the right bank is going to be toast.

I would look for the cause or causes. Years ago I had a fuel pump issue, replaced it but the damage was done and she started a knocking.

Completely my fault. I had the tune jacked up, I pushed it hard on last falls fuel. I'm sure I lost a couple octane points from the fuel sitting. I should have been more careful. I recently put an AEM fuel pump in it as my OEM one failed intermittently.

I had my fun on borrowed time. Next up is to get this boat anchor out, pull the transmission as that has to be gone through after 135,000 miles. It needs a stall converter too. Then I will strip down my Teksid engine and see what rotating assembly to order. Too many kits come with Eagle cranks, which I would like to avoid.

I know for sure that the connecting rod for cylinder #2 is broken. I will have the engine out this weekend. I think aluminum is at $2 a pound at the local recycling center.....

I will start a new thread when I get things apart and keep everyone informed of findings and progress.

Make sure you pull the oil pickup tube (if it is not damaged) for the new engine. It is specific. Yes, sounds about right. Poor fuel and lack of discipline cost me a ring land. I will fix it one of these years. Good luck with your project.

    Ouch!

    I know the feeling.

I turned my (split between the bores!) 5.0 big bore DOHC block into an '$8,000 glass topped coffee table with casters' ...

I post a pic of the table when I get a chance.
Looks even better with a cold beer sitting on top of it!

Personally, I do not think there is much to save in or out of that short block. I will have it out this weekend and perform a forensic analysis...
