    PUSH BUTTON START

    Dear Friends,

My wife has bouts of crippling rheumatic arthritis often affecting her fingers and wrists. Turning the column unlock and starting the Marauder has at times become impossible for her. She misses driving it and some days I need her truck to pick **** up at HD, etc. I've researched putting in a 'push button start' but it seems there are no good universal kits out there and the project, while sounding trivial, really is not when you consider the column lock.

Has anyone done this? I'm reaching out to some mobility/accessibility installers in the Boston area, but was hoping friends on this forum might have some suggestions. Maybe I get lucky and am not the first to crack the code.

Mixing in remote start would be the ultimate, but that might be a bridge too far.

    Thanks,

fastcar (cool emoji's gone. Oh, well...)

If she is just having trouble with the spring tensioned crank, move the crank wire over to a universal 12v push button switch. She then can turn tumbler to "on" and push the button to crank.

If she can't do the tumbler turn at all, install a panel with 12v push switch, toggle switch for ignition and a key operated on off security switch. Wire up like doing a race car or dune buggy. As many options and combinations as you can think of.

I use a remote starter to turn the car on then You just put the key in and simply turn the ignition on. That might work better for Her.

    Thanks 03Merc,

This is probably the best solution because she can handle the ignition on, but not the crank. This way we can 'have our cake and eat it too' - as we will get a remote start AND, in essence, a push button start feature, albeit within a remote fob. Excellent. So glad I reached out to the community. I'll try researching 'remote start' and see if the community has discovered the best units for our MMs...

Lol, thanks Bob. I haven't spent too much time behind the wheel the past few years and just thought it was like the rest of my past full sized Fords...
