    EATC code 051?

I usually drive around with the windows open unless I'm on the interstate or it's just too dang hot for open windows and today was a 'too dang hot' day, so I turned A/C on for first time since...last summer, I guess. Anyways, no cold air so I did the self-test and got the code 051 which is not listed in the table of codes. Then I read that if the car's interior is above 90* the self test may be invalid...it's possible the temp inside the car was >90*, so will do another self-test later this evening to see what code shows up. Also, just prior to doing the self test I had an 'ah, yeah' moment and remembered the last time I tried to use heat (several months ago) it was just blowing air and was not warm/hot at all.

Ok, so I did some more research and am getting the impression that my EATC is toast and needs to be replaced...is this correct?

Run the test again when the interior is under 90 degrees

    Probably not toast.

Try running the test when cooler inside.

Just did the self test again. Outside temp was 83*, interior temp maybe 3-5* warmer, and got the 051 code again. When the opportunity to be 100% certain the interior temp is below 90*, will self test one more time...

    Found these codes:

050 Self test indicates sunload sensor short

    052 Sunload sensor intermittent short

Although the 051 code is not specified, I bet it's related to the sunload sensor.

Sunload sensor is on the top of the dash, also includes the flashing PATS light. I'd make sure it connected before I replaced it.

Google "testing ford sunload sensor" for tips on testing it.
