    Minor misfire

Hi.. I have a misfire but it's not enough to set a code...It only happens when I go into 3rd or overdrive and give a little throttle...if I give it more throttle it stops. I used to get this in my towncar and I would replace some of the ignition coil boots. I have done this in the Marauder but it it still there. I am going to try replacing the coils since they are original, 20 years old now.

    Anyone have thoughts on this?

    Steve

Need a scan tool to read the cylinder contribution to find the mis. Try n get that done before replacing things. A mis could be injector, coil or spark plug. Even the wiring sometimes.

I've had this happen, took it to the dealer for diagnostic. They told me which cylinder and I changed the coil myself. Fixed it. Quicker and cheaper that trial and error. Or you could just replace all 8, which will cost more than the diagnostic. Until it throws a code, handheld scan tool won't tell you which cylinder is intermittently missing.
Thanks to Darrin @ BC Automotive:
$1800 and it was worse than when he started!

My son owns a truck parts business and he has a very expensive 2000.00 scanner. That could not detect what cylinder.

You need to drive it with somebody and they need to watch the values on the scanner, I used a snap on one to figure mine out.

You "feel" the difference because you want to "feel" the difference. Since you just spent money on the upgrade you "have" to feel the difference

I'm looking to eliminate the double pump process I have to follow right now to get the pedal hard

2003 300A Procharger #0017 D1SC (SOLD. Last I heard, it was in Washington State)

I believe you can also use the newer GT500 coils.

I went to a ford parts dealer here in Massachusetts Quirk Ford... For a genuine ford part they were only 51.80 per coil. Since all the coils in the car were 20 years old I bought eight of them. Problem solved. It was on the left side....what a difference.....

8pcs Ignition Coil DG512 & Motorcraft Spark Plug for Lincoln Navigator Blackwood | eBay

Will these work on our Marauders? Are these Genuine Motorcraft Coils and Spark Plugs?

My Dealer last week quoted me a price of $63.00 for just 1 coil.

8+ Genuine Motorcraft Ignition Coil Pack DG512/543 4L7Z12029AB | eBay Ok, now I am confused, the above part number was 4L7Z12029AA, but I think this is the correct part number 4L7Z12029AB, any ideas?

All right I think I figured this out, the part number ending in AA is for the 5.4 Liter Ford Engine, and the part number ending in AB is for our 4.6 Liter Engines our Marauders. Big price difference between the 2 part numbers for a pack of 8 Ignition Coils.

IMG_3659.jpghas anyone been replacing the coil connectors. when I pull the coil covers so many of the wires are cooked so I have been swapping coil connectors and it usually works but on #4 it didn't now going to swap plugs back to motorcraft from ngk and going with the sp433x. what's the deal with .054 vs the .060gap says OEM is .054 and the platinum is .060. honestly I'm only going to swap 4 of them Sunday after church if they get delivered on time and I'll do drivers side on friday. I'll try to log in from my phone to post pics of crunchy wires on connectors
