    Brakes lose power

Was going to get gas but turned around because my brakes didn't feel right. It's like I lose power brakes once I push down far enough on the pedal. The fluid level looks ok but dirty. Probably old.

Maybe it's the brake booster going out? I don't know.

Since the fluid looks dirty, first thing I'd suggest is a brake fluid flush. If there's any air in the system, a proper flush will get rid of it plus you'll have clean fluid. If that doesn't solve the issue, I'd have the master brake cylinder looked at. How many miles on yours?

OK, I think it might be a brake line. I see now that there is a puddle under the passenger side rear wheel.

If you noticed a broken brake line maybe due to corrosion I would replace all as they will most likely follow.

Oh yeah, that does sound like a brake line. If might be the rubber part that connects to the caliper has finally wore out; I replaced those bits with a stainless steel kit someone (TCE?) was offering a decade ago...when I had that done, the rubber line on one of my front brakes had developed a weird balloon-like section and would have probably 'burst' at some point...not good.

To me, it sounds like a loss of vacuum on the brake booster. Does it seem like when you push on the brake pedal with the engine off?

Yes, the mechanic said the rubber ruptured near the caliper on the passenger rear side so is replacing all of them.

Upgrade to stainless steel lines. You'll be rock hard.
