Lightbulb Corner marker lamps converted to turn signals and flashers.

For some reason only known to Ford, Crown Vics do not have turn signals/flashers that can be seen from the side. We only have a parking lamp or marker lamp.

I thought it would be advantageous and would add a degree of safety (particularly at 4-way stops) to rewire this marker to also act as a turn signal and a flasher.

Pics of the rewiring and a vid can be seen here.

Do the marker lamps on Marauders act as turn signals and flashers or are they wired in a similar fashon as Vics?

I pulled the LF assembly and checked. You need an 11mm socket and 1/4" tight ratchet. Having ape length fingers would help too.

The assembly is wired and marked as follows:
    Turn Signal - Major/Minor
    Turning Lamp - Ground/Minor

Knowing this it would seem to wire the turning lamp into a turn signal would be quite easy, mearly move the the ground wire to the minor position. However, this would result in a flashing turning lamp.

I didn't check to see if the bulb size was the same between the two lamps.

The orange lenes is just a reflector, I can't find any purpose for this.

    See attached wiring pics.

    Lightbulb

All you really need is a couple of screwdrivers, a socket wrench and assorted extensions, electrical wire, test bulb, aligator clips and wire, a sewing needle, electrical tape, wire loom, scissors and/or sharp knife, and whatever you choose to use to splice and connect wiring.

I already had all of these items from various other upgrades so the cost was $0.00.

Use the test bulb (aka: circuit tester), the sewing needle and aligator clamps w/wiring to find the correct wire.

On my '98, the side marker lamps and front turn signal lamps both had a black (ground) and a brown (power) wire. The front turn signal lamps had an additonal wire.

Stick the needle into this additional wire. Then connect it to the circuit tester and touch the circuit tester to the postive side of the battery. If the curcuit tester's bulb illuminates, you have found your wire.

You can further verify that you have the correct wire by turning on your flashers and your turn signal. The bulb should flash accordingly.

As SteveS stated and GoodSamaritan told me on the phone, cut the ground wire on the side marker. Then splice into the additional wire on the front turn signal. Connect this spliced wire to the side marker's cut ground wire.

Be sure to connect the spliced wire to the ground that goes towards the bulb.
Use the wire loom and electrical tape to cover up and protect the new wire from the elements. Plus it just looks neater and more OEM.

In additon, do not forget to cover up the cut, exposed ground wire.

    Police package setup

This wiring issue is due to the Police Package factory setup. They were set up for strobes and wigwags.

Here are the pics of the Marauder setup. Our assemblies are quite different than your do to the year.

No Crown Vics, Police Interceptor or not, have marker lights that flash or act as a turn signal. People tend to write too many things off as something to do with a police package.

Wiring a car for strobes has nothing to do with it.

The video on my link is a Crown Victoria LX.

Thanks for the pics. I was looking for those kind of pics to use as a reference.

I wish Crown Vics had that extra lamp that illuminates towards the direction the vehicle is turning.

Yes. The cornering light wire and swtch position on the multipositionswitch on the steering column support a cornering lamp...but alas the CV has not had one since the 97 LX models.

I agree with you on the marker light Embasy.

Marauders have CORNERING LAMPS that turn on when you turn on the corresponding signal.
This is a feature that is shared by the GM, LTC, and Mark.
I've never seen a CV with Cornering Lamps on the front.

The MM & GM do not have a signal lamp between the headlights and the grille like the CV does.
