Flickering Lights

I have a slight problem wth the interior lights; they flicker ever so slightly. When it's cold and first turn the car on it, it's noticable at a regular distance (sitting back in my seat), when it's warm you can barely see it (have to lean forward).

Anyone know what would cause this?

Could be a low battery or dying alternator and when you start turning on things like the heater or radio or defrosters it causes just enough of a dip in juice to cause it? Does it do while driving down the road?

I have the same problem with mine...IMHO
it's the nature of the "beast" and a
(part of normal operation)?

It is a known issue, and if you use the auto headlamp on feature, you may also notice erratic operation of the headlamps, with on-off cycling in dim, but not dark, daylight conditions. A replacement lighting control module is indicated in the TSBs. I had mine done and the new module worked. A workaround is also available by slightly increasing the brightness of the interior control and instrumentation lighting level.

Autolamp mode turns lights on in sunny conditions as well as driving into the shade ect. I also have the flicker and it is more distinct on the oil and volt guage. I have complained twice, and the dealer is still playing a game that they can't duplicate this condition saying that "it is only the digital dash's that Ford recognises are defective."I will be insistant next time or I will go elsewhere to get it resolved.

There is no problem here. As said above, this has been discussed several times on this site. Most if not all alternators have voltage regulators. The alternator won't put out any voltage until a signal is sent from the regulator at a certain RPM. When the car is idleing, your'e right on that RPM threshold. Hence, the lights will flicker as the regulator switches on and off. This is true for most all cars with this kind of system. Some just show it more than others. Others here can probably explain it in more detail, but the above gives the basic idea.

Who else has had a dealer take action on this issue?

I took her back to the dealership within a week of purchase for the exact same problem. I got a new alternator,.. lights still flicker,.. occationally I notice it.

Kinda bugged me at first, not anymore.

I thought I read a post, That they was a TSB for the dash flicker and irratic autolamp behavior, where a updated part# :like the town car has to correct this?

the TSB is for the exterior lamps flickering in auto mode. DOn't know exactly the fix, the interiro lights flickering as you describe is definitely voltage regulator related.

I have a 04 Crown Vic LX Sport and I just put in the new 200 amp Police Interceptor alternator. When I rev the car into high RPM the interior lights flicker, even the head lights. Enough to see it sitting in the car, is this going to do any damage to the wiring in the car? Should I put the old 130 amp alternator back in and deal with the lack of power for my stereo?

I had flickering lights everywhere, then the car completely died. It was a loose wiring harness. No problems since it was reconnected and my blood pressure is back down.
