Arrow Some States Are Stealthy - Some Learning

In conjunction with this thread and this thread:

I'm going to have to add to SC's list of undercover vehicles. It appears someone at work blew by a black unmarked Tahoe with tinted windows and ultimately recieved a ticket for 15 over the other day.

I've seen Tahoes and Suburbans pulling over semi-trucks plastered with "SCDOT TRANSPORTATION PATROL." Or something to that extent on the side. But now it appears they have other uses.

Greenville County and now our State Patrol have moved rapidly to Impala's for traffic patrol. So I guess the lesson we're learning is not to judge a book by it's cover but ask "Is it American?" and "Are those tints insanely dark?" Even if the license plate is a standard civilian issue, who knows!

So if it's been working for another state, or even another juristiction of government like the FBI, and it looks official with tinted windows, don't take any chances.

I assume that every state has their unmarked cars in atypical cop car models.
The Camaro and Mustang have both offered police packages over time.

I've seen unmarked Camaros with lights inside in Indiana on 65. The same in Illinois on I-88 and 355. Unmarked Suburbans in DeKalb, IL. My sister has told me about the unmarked cop cars in Wisconsin.

I don't think the method is as effective, but that's a story for a different thread.

Well just let me date myself here LONG ago and in the great state of OHIO
I was passed by a police Kenworth tractor who shortly afterwards had pulled over a trucker. Yes a semi tractor had been confiscated or something but it sure could haul.... So never ASSuME anything...

Yep, Joe, just ask the guys in Maryland that got nailed by the Corvette with flames painted on it.

On some of the expressways around me I have seen an older Sable, Grand Prix, and a minivan, all unmarked that pulled someone over. Getting hard to keep track of this stuff.

Um... ok. My assumption is even more valid with your reference.

There's only two purposes, from what I can figure:
    1. Possibly tail a serious criminal (e.g. bank robbery) without their knowledge
    2. Money grab from unsuspecting drivers

Dark tinted windows is a tip-off here in Fl where 35% is the legal maximum for front windows. I see a car with 20% or darker and I look for the lights in the grille.

From what I have seen in CT if it is an Impala and has those ugly black steel wheeles with trim rings it is an SP, no ifs ands or buts.

Which begs me to ask, why can they have the windows darker than legal? I would at least hope that if I ever get a ticket for my darker than legal tint that the officer writing the ticket better not have it as well.

If he does I may have to do a Goober on him and do a citizens arrest
