Doubt it'd be dangerous, but it'd sure as heck be loud! A Crown Vic owner has done this, and he said it sounds great (loud), but... he plans to put mufflers on sometime. I'd think being muffler-less would get old real fast. Just my opinion.

Only to your peace of mind, at the picnic you heard it Alex, makes the MM. sound very deep like a push rod engine..of course it sounds loud....all the time.

There were a few members around here that ran straight pipes for awhile. I heard someone's blue marauder at Indy MV-II last year. It was...just as TAF said...annoyingly loud.

I once drove from Chicago to Cleveland with ONE open tube, and it was the most embarrassing thing ever.

Hold your ears when your dad revs the motor with nothing there.

Call 1-800-FORD-788 and press "1". Have the last 6 of your VIN handy. You will get the numbers for FREE. You'll pay $$$ for the certificate.

MM traded in 8/9/13 @ 128909 miles. It was fun for almost 8 years. I met airmercpun on 1/17/14. He was the new owner of my former ride. -Now gone.

Update: back in the game with a late build 03 GMGS with some MM add ons like Escape audiophile radio w/Sirius sat radio, rear sway bar, catback exhaust, and header panel.

See my garage file for part numbers and whatnot.

IMHO, this site- the members that I chat with- and the ones that I now Hang with- are like my 2nd family. There is such an ongoing welcome feeling here that even members who don't or no longer own the MM can feel.

I've used straight pipes w/o cats with some flowmasters on a mustang before but would never suggest going without a muffler at all. Straight pipes with flowmasters sounds good to me.

I had straight pipes on my Crown Vic for awhile, it was nice only when you are screwing around with friends, but also made the car sound like a piece of *****. I almost got a ticket for it too.

Yep. TAF tells it as it is.

Just last week, I heard two '03/'04 Cobras at Joliet with this exhaust system. Both were way overly loud with no real benefit from that, even the pros present and listening in, got a good chuckle over them.

Chances of being pronounced excessively loud by law enforcement? Excellent! So excellent that it's a shame the decibles isn't a lottery number somewhere. Chances of getting any performance gains from that risk?

    You're kidding, right?

Two of my Marauder friends here in Chicagoland have tried straight pipes. One has since restored some type of muffler, the other sold the car as is.

Nonetheless, do what you want, it's your MM...

SLP exhaust doesn't use mufflers, just high-flow cats and resonators. Pretty decent sound.

Turndowns tend to shoot the noise to the ground, makes it rumble some, but sounds louder in the car.

Cats do muffle the sound a bit, but I don't think that I'd want to go w/out using any mufflers at all even with the use of cats, unless it was strictly a drag car.

if you like the way a pulp wood truck sounds then straight pipes are for you.

to each his own...if YOU like it then do it...who cares what others think

Not exactly sure what "straight pipes" means, but I am currently running without mufflers. This is an experiment to see if we like it this way. Otherwise the exhaust is stock with the stock tips. The resonators in the Megs tips quiet it down a little bit. At idle or low throttle the sound is quiet or mellow. The volume increses with load on the engine. Just sitting in Park and revving it sounds comparable to those with louder sport mufflers. Under load while accelerating it is very loud. Sounds like NASCAR if you floor it. So far the Orlando cops are ignoring the noise. I work downtown near the cop HQ, so I am frequently near to them in traffic. So far I have days that I love the sound, and days where I don't. This weekend we will be going to Miami to head out for a weeklong cruise - this will give us some highway experience with the exhaust this way.
I recorded some video clips on the way to work one morning recently:
