Need GPS Information

Seeing as how I know very little about GPS Receivers, I need advice from those of you who do know a lot about them.

I want a unit that is ready to use right out of the box and that I don't have to add "chip cards" or things like that which I don't understand. I get confused when reading about them, so I thought I'd ask you guys.

What can you tell me about the:
Magellan Roadmate 760;
Magellan Roadmate 700;
Magellan Roadmate 500;
Magellan Roadmate 360;
Garmen 2610;
Garmen 2620.

Someone told me that the 360 was the same as the 760 except that it could not be "loaded for Europe". Then I read that the 2620 has disc's and the 2610 does not, and that the 2610 uses a SIM card (which I have no idea how to insert). Some you can program through your computer, which I don't want to do. They all have a large enough screen. All I want is a unit that I open the box, mount in the car, punch in where I am and where I want to go, and have it guide me there.

Any information you guys can give me?

Yep. Easy. Garmin Streetpilot 2720.

It already knows where you are. Plug into your cigarette lighter, toss it on the dash and do what it says. Couldn't be simpler.

No dvd's, no crap, just a good solid GPS.

I bought one a few weeks back and love it.

I have been jonesn for one of those. I could have used it today when I had to drive across the dam state to bring an evil-doer in.

Lucky me I guess. Oh yeah, I didn't get "lost", I just took the long way there.

GPS is good, I love my Pioneer GPS/DVD combo, but I admit Garmin is the best.

I think you should go for an in dash unit. I have the Pioneer Avic n1 and I would want anything else. You dont have to worry about people stealing it becaude it is attached to your car, not stuck on your windshield. Plus you get dvd, cd, am/fm as well. You can add accessories such as rear view camera, sirius, xm, and such. Plus you get free updates every year so you never have an out dated system.....

My new Durango Limited has it built in to the dash, not sure who makes it but man it works so well. We have been doing allot of road trips since moving to AZ and it has not let us down yet...restaurants-hotels...whatever. It uses one DVD that has everything on it so you never have to swap it out.

Go for the Garmin 2720. This is the second Garmin I have had and it is super. Plug it in and go. Touch screen and all the maps are pre-loaded on the hard drive. Can be used from car to car and I even have a mount to use on my Harley Road King Classic. A little pricey but worth it.

dodge has the factory unit for like $1,458. There are even dodge neons with that setup.

Nope, thats not it, the one in the Durango has a better bigger screen and different buttons, also has a joystick button.

We use the Garmin Street Pilot 2620. Plug it into a 12V source and away you go. We like the touch screen feature, but hardly use the little keypad controller that's included. Also, the talking lady gets confused and can be a nasty *****, if you don't clear the memory. (track history)

For instance, we didn't get off the turnpike, as directed, at Breezewood on our way back from Ohio, and she kept howling at us to turn around and go back to McConnellsburg, (35mi) when we were at the entrance to our own driveway.

In other words, you have to use some common sense and be sure you're asking the correct questions or she'll drive you right off a cliff. For instance, selecting the shortest distance, vs the quickest or best route, can get you a scenic drive through downtown Baltimore.

Do you lose the stero controls on the steering wheel?

I like the in dash systems. I've been leaning toward the Garmin but then I found out about the ones that use your lap top. For like $200 bucks I can use my computer. This works for me since I have a Jotto-Desk in the MM for the lap top.
