    NoVa Exhaust Shops

Anyone know of exhaust shops in Northern Virginia? I attemted to have my Magnaflows installed by local Falls church/ Arlinghton shops but they said they don't do stuff like that go to a gas station. I beleve there was one down route 1 just past walmart and the movie theater. Any others I should look at?

I can't help you on this subject. I took a 10.5 hour trip to Grand Mufflers ( Todd Fisher's shop ~Taf) in Atlanta. The local shops in Manassas are not very good. Some of the Maryland C.A.M. members might be able to suggest a shop.

This is the 2nd time this happened to me! The konis required drilling to oem front struts and no shop would touch them. Thanx for your help. I don't plan on leaving town till may to get the car registered in a non va state. Hopefully by then it should be on. I'll try mineke tomorrow after night shift.

Depending upon where you plan to register the car, you may want to put off any exhaust work. If the state has "California" emission laws, any mods would violate the law, thereby negating registration. When I did mine headers, etc. I first went and did the emissions test to be able to keep registered. Just a thought.

When in doubt, GAS IT! This will either fix the problem, or end the suspense.

You can try Chantilly Steering and Alignment on Willard Road in Chantilly, VA. The proprietor is Jim Wacker. He does all kinds of repair work with specialization in steering, alignment, and exhaust. He did my Borla cat-back and custom downtubes for my 93 TBird. He re-built the differential on my TBird. He is the ONLY guy besides me that works on my TBird. I plan to go to him this Spring to have Borla mufflers put on the MM. I don't have the phone number handy but can get it out of my car later.

cleveland is in the process of scrapping their emmitions...again. My fingers are crossed they do. I don't plan on killing cats or anything that extreme. I have a feeling the mufflers might be swapped out for dual mode if there is as much drone as some say.

There used to be a place - Manassas Muffler and Brake, off Euclid. The guy that ran the shop was older, and he was really really good. He did a custom cat back on my old Jaguar - it was a 1980 XJ6 with a chevy V8. The problem with the XJ6's of that era is the rear ends are independent with 4 shocks and springs, inboard brakes, and all the control bars, and the exhaust routes up, through and over. It's a tough run to do and he did it no sweat.

Unfortunately earlier in '05 I tried to get some work done there, and couldn't find the place. They either moved or closed up shop - I couldn't find them on 411.

Other than that, I'd like to know as well.

I found the link to Jim's shop..........

This guy and his shop are very good. I've had a lot of different work done by them and have been completely satisfied. Highly recommended.

Cool. I'm gonna try theses places and a co-worked als said he knew a place where his budy had stuf done to his gm. Think e just wanna se my car in action as for the emitions iirc the MF would pass the audible as long as they aren't administeding the test "Cleveland style" where the tend to revv the engine till the block cracks. Also after the 1st on I have the ability to wave the firther ones(active duty and another state). I wanted to register in ohio so it doesn't look as funny as it does right now(texas tags comming back to a hotel, Drivrers license from cleveland and have a Va address).

    For some more background.................... .

This shop had no issues in re-building my exhaust system on the TBird from the headers back. They built custom 2.5" downtubes (from the 1 7/8 headers) including welding in the bung for the RH O2 sensor, installed 2 new Catco 3-way cats in place of the stock 3 separate "cats in a Y pipe", and put on the Borla cat back system. I wasn't trying to beat any emissions stuff. I do not know of any sound issues in VA unless you're running essentially no muffs.

I have had trouble passing NOx emissions with this set-up partly because the cats are now further back (and cooler) than stock. But I've gotten through anyway.
