Fuel Delivery and MAF for 450-500 ponies

Getting closer to pulling the trigger on a PA.

Can anyone comment on the Walbro pump,42 lb injectors, and Lighting MAF for 450-500 hp?

    Better recommendations?

Kenny Brown built my MM with a Walbro 255 LPH pump, and used the stock 80mm MAF in ablow through setup. There was a wall at 455 RWHP, 425 RWTQ, but that was okay with me on my stock bottom end. Car ran 12.5x to 12.7x on street tires, but not consistently.

If you want more power than this, build the bottom end first, then add the SCT BA2800 (90mm MAF), dual Focus pumps and a Kenne Bell boost-a-pump. 500 plus feels a lot better than 455, and the performance is much more consistent.

Single Focus pump with BAP, SCT 2400 and 42 lb injectors will be fine.

42lb injectors are good for around 500rwhp.

This is the setup on the "stock" 370 pulley Procharger kit. It's been fine to 450 rwhp with reserve, but I wouldn't touch a 360 pulley without more pump and a MAF extender on top of the 90mm. If you're hunting for a 500+ rwph machine, I'd also be looking at bottom end and transmission upgrades to handle that kind of power reliably.
    Currently Marauderless but looking

    Around...But not much more.

I've got 42s, and they are close enough to being maxed out that I have 55s or 60s on the '06 build list. The 42s deliver only 39 pounds at 6200 RPM. That's still safe in my case, but very close to the lean line. 55s or 60s will serve me better in flexibility under fire.

The stock injectors are 24 pounders, and I often wonder what guys like Barry (Cruztaker) could do with a tad bit more gas (if not already addressed). A BA2400 and 32s would prolly push him down 2/10ths, but maybe not. It all comes back to "the tune".

Now I'm looking at Zack's reply, and thinking...Yeah, he's right. Nothing was said about building the engine, or, other mods. It was just about "maybe adding a PA", and he gave up safe advice.

Sorry I'll rephrase, 480-500 hp. I wouldn't use 42's for more than that. But then again they might not be because the Auto sucks alot of HP/TQ so really on these cars 460-480rwhp is where you'd wana be max with 42's

Thanks for the replies! I should add that my concern is not just for the strip, it is for the circle track also. I want to make sure there is enough fuel when the engine heats up and I am doing a couple of l a p's at something like ...Sebring

The tranny is definitley being built. This bottom end, maybe not right away, wait to see what the tax man has to say this year.

I can get PTK to ship me their complete Turbo system for under 4900 delivered if I pull the trigger before the end of the month.

The purpose of this thread was to make sure I address the fuel delivery issues when I order.

Sounds like I should go with the 60 lb injectors.

What about the single focus pump, ,BAP, and a 90 mm MAF? What will that be good for?

Yes, go with the 60s. The 42s should be ok but they will be almost topped out and the 60s will have some headroom. They can be setup for good drivability, even while N/A.

I wouldn't use the Focus SVT pump. The twin Cobra pumps with BAP would be better.

For what he wants to accomplish, I thing a single focus pump with BAP is more than adequate.
Remember, hes not using horsepower to run the turbo.

People have experienced the Walbro pump burning out after a while in a returnless application. It doesn't like the variable voltage I guess. So, use one of the Ford pumps mentioned above or Steeda's dual pump. My Paxton kit came with the Walbro pump. But, I changed to the Steeda dual pump and BAP and can support 450 rwhp in my manual Cobra (42 lb injectors too). The Ford pumps weren't available at the time.

I agree it'll be adequate for what he wants to do NOW. You know how addictive horsepower is. I'd rather pull the fuel pumps out of the tank one time instead of having to upgrade again later.
