    black boxes

I found this article interesting. Anyone know for certain if we did or did not receive these in our cars? I have not seen anything unusual when poking around, but I don't know jack about what it might look like. Someone who has completely dismantled their MM (John?) might know if these exist in our cars.

    Thanks

sidenote: Last week I went to a Information Security Auditing Assoc. meeting here in town and a speaker from a digital forensics company was presenting. He had mentioned that they had a client who owned a Hummer H2 and was involved in a car accident w/ someone who had the same insurance company. He had to dispute his claim since the insurance company wasn't going to.

Well, this forensics company got the job and discovered there are 20+ onboard computers on an H2. One monitored tire wear and displayed breaking conditions - i.e.- duration and speed recorded; but no time/date stamp. Regardless, the guy was able to dispute the claim.

I thought it was kinda cool

It can be read from the OBD II port, I have a CarChipEX which will download the last 20 seconds of vehicle operation after a "hard brake", or "hard acceleration" event. There has been a lot of discussion on it here, but read up on one of the harvesting tools here?
