    Windshield

It has finally happened... My windshield cracked today.

Gotta' love those big trucks with the sign on the back that reads "Construction Vehicle - Do Not Follow"

They tear down the thruway at 70 MPH dropping ***** all over the place....

So I have heard that the 2003 windshields are better than the 2004 ????

Any pics of a 2003 windshield? Mine is the dot matrix type...

    Part # ???

It will be a FoMoCo replacement, I won't let the insurance company talk me into an aftermarket.

My 2003 is Dot Matrix the first inch then solid black to the top of the glass. 2003 and 2004 have different part numbers but the part listing is not clear on the difference.

UPDATE: Ok the parts listing is somewhat incorrect, Here is the the part number for 2003-2004 is 3W7Z-5403100-AB Build date from 12/2/02.

I Just Replaced Mine For $250 Out The Door. They Used An Original Fomoco Windshield. I Added The Blue Tint Option To The Replacement. I Like It A Lot.

My MM had a PPG windshield until the rear view mirror fell off and took part of the glass with it. But before that, 2/3 of the outer molding flew off while driving in the highway.

Call 1-800-FORD-788 and press "1". Have the last 6 of your VIN handy. You will get the numbers for FREE. You'll pay $$$ for the certificate.

MM traded in 8/9/13 @ 128909 miles. It was fun for almost 8 years. I met airmercpun on 1/17/14. He was the new owner of my former ride. -Now gone.

Update: back in the game with a late build 03 GMGS with some MM add ons like Escape audiophile radio w/Sirius sat radio, rear sway bar, catback exhaust, and header panel.

Either way, the PPG windshield is history on my MM.

Mine had a windshield replaced when it was delivered, according to Brian's OASIS report, then by me, a year later, due to the dreaded Bradford Tree incident. I tried to get an '03 windshield as a replacement, and it's not an option. ALL windshields are the dot matrix type these days, according to Cindy Rowe Auto Glass folks, who, BTW do most of Ford's window replacements, right at the dealership. Also, make sure, with a hammer, if necessary that the crack is larger than a dollar bill, or they're gonna repair it. Use a towel and a rubber mallet to make the crack spread enough.

    suggestion,
Ask them to raise the rearview mirror about 2" and get it TF out of the way of the forward visibility. They didn't charge me anything extra to move mine when I replaced the windscreen.

You know, you are so right. At stop signs I sometimes don't see the car to my right. I thought I was the only one. Great idea if I need to replace mine. Sorry about the trucks, Joe. Were you on the Youngman or the Scajaquada expy?? LOL. Good luck.

Yeah, this kinda bugs me too. I have gotten into the habit of double checking to the right and looking a little "under" the mirror. I'll have to remember the 2" up recommendation when I lose my windshield. In Northern Virginia .... it's just a matter of time.

Sweetair, I was on the 90 from Buffalo to Rochester.

I have adjusted my rear view mirror up and out of the way. It swivels you know. I can't go any higher due to the overead display.

Guess I'll just be sure to get the FoMoCo glass for a MM.

Yeah thats a great idea. With the seat all the way down, I am just tall enough so the friggin mirror is in my way half the time when trying to hunt road signes etc.
