    Annoying noise and heat

I just got home from a short run out to the store, and on the way back, there was a sudden squeal/squeak.. If I drove faster than 30mph, it was a loud squeak, but under 30, it would rise in volume, then stop, then repeat.

Once I got home, I checked to see if anything was caught in the brake system, and I happened to notice the right rear wheel was warmer than the left (not hot, just warmer).

I am thinking a wheel bearing went out, so I get to check that out tomorrow, but wanted to check here first to see if someone else ran into this and it might have turned out to be something different.

I believe the parking brake is a bit frozen and slightly hung up.

The little shoe brakes in the hats in the rear are prone to failure... I would guess the same...get under there and spray some windshield deicer all over the e brake unit and manually pull the cable/lever back....happens to my CV all the time here in VT... so we only use the ebrake once a year... at inspection... I don't know where you're located, but if you used the defroster or bi-level setting on your climate control, the a/c compressor may cycle on and off causing a cold belt to squeal loudly under the hood. It does not come on in the heat only position. It would cycle at road speeds as well and not be constant.

    More info

The interesting thing is that I was driving it when it started. I was actually on my way home, made a right turn, then it started. I am going to pop the wheel off and check the ebrake just to be sure that's not it given the posts here.

    Thanks for all the info

You have a Hyundai stuck in the undercarriage. They only squeals when they touch against the hot exhaust pipes.

    Actually..

Hyundai? Or was it that KIA? LOL

In reality though, something in the trunk was sitting in an odd place causing the tapping, but the sqealing was the ebrake cable...

All nice n happy now.. weee..

Hyundais have a very unique shrill squeal when stuck under a Marauder. Kias tend to get wrapped up in the pulleys and belts on the front of the engine, so they usually go clunketywhineclunketywhineclunk.

I had to add more to the issue here.. The loud knocking was due to something in the trunk, but I noticed a faint noise.. tick tick... tick tick...
and it goes away if I apply light pressure to the ebrake... I am thinking something is loose, or not situated right... and the freakin pedal goes to the floor.. so I am gettin that checked out.. It can't be that hard to fix

Then its all set to start the monster detailing again, then take pix to share...

I agree....Hondas never cause these types of noise, as they are always BEHIND a Marauder!!!
