    HELP!! (I don't do windows)

My Merc (no longer under warranty) dropped it's passenger side rear window (about three inches). It seems to no longer be on its track although the motor is still working (it won't roll it all the way up). Before I take it to the stealership for repair ... does anyone know if there's an easy fix for this? When it comes to windows, regulators, etc. ... I know nothing.

    Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a regulator broke. Unusual for the rear, do you use them alot? It's not a very difficult repair although you need the "big daddy" riveter.

To everyone else I highly recommend lubing window runs a couple times a year.

You can use silicone or WD-40, I perfer WD. With the small tube attatched to nozzle and window open most of the way, spray into the channel the glass rides. It's harder in front because front of door channel is much lower in door, but spray it the same. Then work the window up and down a couple cycles to work in lube. Works best with engine running so you full power to motors.
Just becareful not to spray glass or weatherstrips on inner and outer glass.

I do this to all friends and family cars. My last MGM '92 I did this at least twice a year and sold it a couple years ago to a friend with 170K, and it now has 225K with never a window regulator replacement, which is very common for that car.

A connector roller on my focus rear window broke off last week. The motor would run but the window was no longer physically connected to the lift.

They pulled the door panel, and replaced the roller.

I would suggest opening the door panel and taking a look-see for yourself.

That sounds what is happening in my case.

Thanks Jim. I've got an appt on Tuesday at the local dealership. I've got a belt squeal that I need them to check out as well.

I have two types of Ford dealerships local to me.

The first is newer but not as good, they make an appointment about a week later and have you bring your car in to them so they can work on it.

The second, the older one, they tell you to bring it in tomorrow no appointment and they will have a look and tell you what needs to be done.

For my drooping headlight they said this and I took the second one up on their offer to come in and they fixed it while looking at it for free on the spot.

Funny thing is the same guy owns both dealerships.

A good after market shop should be able to take care of this for you. You can not replace just a roller on this regulator. Most people do not have the size riveter to do this job.

For those who aren't familiar with Awa it stands for "After Warranty Assistance"

I'm guessing these take the 1/4" rivets? If so, Harbor Frieght has the big rivet gun for $19 or so.
