    Unhappy cleaning upper intake manifold

    Aloha Everyone,

How do I clean it? I just took off the throttle body for cleaning, and looked into the upper manifold...OMG! There is alot of oil in there! I guess oil was being sucked up from the PCV. I saw one of our vendors had the pre-filters to avoid this from happening...can't remember which one??? [help]

Back to my question...If I shoot carb. cleaner into it...I'm afraid that the residue will pool in the cylinders or on the top of the valves...not a good picture...

How do you guys do it?

    All help would be appreciated...Thanks

    ALOHA

Maybe try the seafoam cleaning through PCV tube on intake while running to clean it up?

Here's the follow up, on trying to clean out the upper intake manifold...

I made a huge mistake...used the PCV tube coming out of the drivers side and enters the JLT air tube...Apparently this one (driver's side) PCV is the "inlet" [I wish I knew that!!!! ]

Well anyway, I pour in the sea foam, while the engine is runnig...and nothing...no smoke or roughness coming from the engine...that was the sign for me to look down...To my wonder I see all the sea foam pouring out the air filter...OOOOH ***** !!!

What a mess, it made....Had to take apart the entire air filter...clean it, and the entire air intake passage...What a PITA that was...

Came back to this site, to figure out what went wrong...Found out through reading posts and links from ts-pa (Thanks my friend) that the drivers side PCV is an "inlet" and it's the passenger side PCV that is the "out let"...

Now I realize that the pass. side PCV was the one I should of used...Funny thing, when I pulled the the driver's side, I did not feel any suction...That should of told me I had the WRONG ONE!

Well that's how lessons are learned...Hope my mistake helps others...

    ALOHA

BTW: For blkwidowmerc, JLT does not give a part #, only says Model: PCVPF

Thank GOD that none of that spilled onto you exhaust, that stuff is flammable. Sorry, I guess that I should have been more clear when I recommended this method. Lesson learned on my part too.

    Exclamation

Just go SLOW so that you don't hydrolock the engine! Be careful, this stuff has a very low flash point! I have seen naptha light up just by rubbing a desk with it.

Thanks for the info....Used the pass. side this time...worked like a charm...

Although, could not use a liquid type cleaner...The PCV needed to remain on the tube...So went with aerisol type to spray into the PCV, while the engine is running...Sprayed the whole can!

Took a while to burn off (huge white clouds)...but the car feels peppyier and seems like it revs quicker...Seems worth the lessons learned...Thanks again...

Glad everything worked out for you bro! I was always skeptical about that Sea Foam stuff (probaby because a while back on CVN a member poured some in and his car stopped running! lol) Now I know exactly what to do if I decide to go through with it.
