    The width of the tire has nothing to do with triggering the traction control. The difference between the HEIGHT of the front and rear tires will trigger the traction control. You have to have at least 3% difference between the front and rear tires.... rears have to be 3% taller than the fronts.

    This only matters if you have a 2004 with traction control.

    Are 255 45 18 O K to use on the rear?? 265 55 18 ??

    255-45-18 are for front..will be short for the rear. 265-55-18 is tall...I wouldn't.

    Try tiresize.com...allows you to compare tire sizes, while giving you matching sets for our f/r sizes and also allows you to see different tire sizes within your set diameter...the site is very comprehensive.
