    The official Kentucky Trip thread

Okay - I started it, so I guess I can name it (and make it 'official'). Nyaah nyaah!

In order to plan a convoy, it needs to be known when're people leaving to go to Kentucky? I, myself, me (and the car) are leaving sometime Thursday (3 Apr) morning. Anyone else coming? I plan on returning Sunday (6 Apr).

Also - will we be using FRS radios en route? Inquiring minds, and all that.

    Dive in, folks!

I plan on leaving my house at 8 AM, Thursday 3 April. Route 234 By-Pass (aka Prince William Parkway) to I-66 West.

Could meet at 234/Parkway and Ball's Ford around 8:30 AM (or at the new FBI building at 234/Parkway and University).

    I will be monitoring FRS/GMRS Channel 5.

Return on Sunday, 6 Apr (after church somewhere).

I'm heading out of Greenville around 9:00-ish Thursday morning. I'll be heading up I-26 to I-40, will rendezvous with 03mmmonroe, probably in/around Asheville, NC.

From there, will head up I-75 and then on to I-64. If any of you guys will be running the latter part of that route, PM me with cell phone and projected ETA and I'll give you a holler en-route.

Leaving Sunday sometime before noon, maybe? Arriving home sometime Sunday evening.

    Proposal

    How about this:

Meet Thursday morning @ 0830 @ I-66 and US-15 [south side of that intersection, in the gas station on the east side of the intersection of John Marshall Highway (VA Rt 55) and James Madison Highway (US-15)]. Fuel up, coffee up, doughnut up and get on the road.

Monitor FRS Channel 5 (462.6625, CSQ) or 146.520 simplex, CSQ.

Coming back, we can figure out when we are down there.

    Mark

(Of course, I will monitor "Channel D.")

Sounds like a plan, Mark. Since the wife is coming along, I'll have to allow "Kentucky Windage" on the actual departure time to allow for the traditional Barnum & Bailey routine. Let's say between 8:30-8:45 AM. You have my cell, right?

No, but if people coming in the "convoy" PM me their cell, I'll assemble a spreadsheet and email it back out a day or two before the event so we all got 'em.

Can you correct for "Kentucky Windage" through an elevation adjustment? (i.e. "To the moon, Alice!")
