    HELP right rear axle seal...

I was removing the snows tonight. The inner right rear wheel was coated in grease and it was running down the side of the tire. I am assuming its the axle seal as the brakes are fine. Is it driveable like this? -or- should I let it sit in the driveway until I can get into the garage? Thanks.

Wecome to the world of New axle replacement. The dreaded soft axle shaft has struck another fine Marauder owner. Don't worry it's a big club.

I've heard of just seals going on 2004s. But it is still a tossup until the axle is removed.

Update: back in the game with a late build 03 GMGS with some MM add ons like Escape audiophile radio w/Sirius sat radio, rear sway bar, catback exhaust, and header panel.

I wouldn't put more miles on it before it gets fixed or else a full overhaul would be expected.

Thanks, I'll let it sit. I believe it happened this afternoon. And, NO extended warranty...

I believe I got lucky as there was not alot of grease in wheel and it was running down the side of the tire when I removed it. No spots in the driveway, so I believe it just happened. Hoping the ten miles to the dealer's shop doesn't do too much damage. Was going to have the rear brakes redone in a few weeks anyway, so I guess that is being done sooner. I wonder what they'd charge to do 4.10s as long its apart anyway???

You may want to call Wes at Innovative Interceptors and get a proper rear cover with stud & girdle kit, to replace the pizza pan that holds the juice in, now.
Remembering that attention to instillation details are important to keep the replacement from leaking.

    The Final Outcome

Turns out both sides are bad, new seals did the trick. Rear brakes replaced, Manager said the e brake was "toast, completely gone". Must have hung up as I don't use it routinely, only when car is jacked up for work. Spring that works on posi toast. Thats why I don't have the car back yet as he had to order it. Maybe tomorrow. Still waiting for the bill. but, he said he only has a couple hours into it plus parts. These guys are good to me, charge actual hours worked, not book time. It also helps that their rates are quite reasonable for a FLM dealer, $60 hr.
