The bird of the day is.....

Hey gang. Seems like the bird pictures are being well recieved so here are a couple more and a story.

I had my camera bag in the kitchen and on of my wife's friends wips out their cell phone and had a picture of an eagles nest on it. They said, I should be able to get a better picture than what they had . We got the address, loaded up the family and off we go. Told the wife to look up in the tree and let me know if she sees anything. Amazingly we found it and were able to park nearby. The weather is overcast, but clearing. 300 shots later the CF card is full and we head home. About 280 hit the trash bin, and the top four are here. I am so excited to get an eagle, this was one of my "dreams" when I got my DSLR. I still have a lot to learn, but from the looks of these guys I will have a chance to practice up on them.

    Watching out over the nest

This is a bad mofo looking bird

    The nest

I slapped the 1.4x teleconverter on. Manual focus (obviously I missed) and a 100% crop, over- brightened, over-sharpened but what the heck.

Hopefully I will be able to see them in a week even after the tree leafs out.

    Stay tuned!

We put up two Bluebird houses right in our backyard 4 years ago...

    Guess what?
The VERY first season we had a pair of bluebirds nest in one of the boxes!

We've had three years of Bluebird nests and last year we had a pair of tree swallows.
This is 'poppa' Bluebird on the neighbor's fence a few days ago.

Way to go Jeremy! That's quite a catch. I would also be excited if I could get a good shot of an eagle. I take it you are enjoying that 400 L.

    Nicely done!
I would suggest you offer copies of them to the Eagle (raptor) center in Wabasha. They have an entire room dedicated to photos of the bald Eagle.
The nesting photo is certainly as good as or better than the ones they are using.
My favorite is an action shot of the eagle doing battle with a large bovine or something. Me thinks the cow is losing.
These birds are truly in a class of their own.
