    Oil leaking from axle seal.

I moved my car yesterday and found a little puddle where my passenger-side rear wheel had been. Smells like gear oil. The inside of my rim is wet.
The $40k question is: How far can I go on this? Can I make it to the Cape?

Why chance it? If it's leaking in your wheels, it's going to wind up on your brakes. Also, if you happen to run your rear low and ruin it, that was a couple thousand dollar mistake.

Besides, on an A, it's probably not the seal that's at fault. Your axle shaft is probably so ripped up that it tore the seal.

Call 1-800-FORD-788 and press "1". Have the last 6 of your VIN handy. You will get the numbers for FREE. You'll pay $$$ for the certificate.

MM traded in 8/9/13 @ 128909 miles. It was fun for almost 8 years. I met airmercpun on 1/17/14. He was the new owner of my former ride. -Now gone.

Update: back in the game with a late build 03 GMGS with some MM add ons like Escape audiophile radio w/Sirius sat radio, rear sway bar, catback exhaust, and header panel.

    Rest In Peace:

See my garage file for part numbers and whatnot.

IMHO, this site- the members that I chat with- and the ones that I now Hang with- are like my 2nd family. There is such an ongoing welcome feeling here that even members who don't or no longer own the MM can feel.

Mike, if you're going to bring the axle TSB kit with you, then it shouldn't be a major problem...you're going to be replacing everything that might be damaged when you get here anyway. Just be sure the diff is full before you leave and keep the speed down.

I don't think anyone on this planet can guarantee him he won't be a Darwin Awards inductee, driving w/ oil leaking around the brakes, on the highway, at any speed though. Life, not worth risking over axle kit. The kit would take anyone a couple hours to install w/ a loaner tool puller from Autozone or Advance, w/ the swivel rear axle bearing puller attachments (or without, just use a pipe and a mallet)

    That's what I hoped you'd say Bob.
I'll be calling Scott and Ray tomorrow.
While I'm at it, should I get the fancy-schmancy diff cover as well?

The shiny heiny isn't really necessary unless you have much greater than stock power, but it certainly can't hurt. Anything that can be done to increase the longevity of the driveline is a good thing. It's really up to you.

Keep your eyes open for a black MM travelling cautiously to Hyannis on Memorial Day.

    Good to know. Thanks!
What I'm really looking forward to is that I'm finally getting my gears done.

Yeah, I've got a chip. I got it as a package from Dennis.
Can't wait! I've been hearing gears and a tune transform these beauties into completely different cars. I've been sitting on these for about 3 years now.
I'll finally be able to take the "banging head" off my sig lol.
