    Seat Belt Chime

Hello I was wondering if anyone knows how to shut up the seat belt chime.

I put my seatbelt on and it still goes off! I think it has something to do with the Airbag light being on as well - or its two different problems. Either way the dealer wants 500 bucks.

I hope its cheaper to locate the speak and

    any help would be appericated!

In the manual, it tells you how to disable the chime. But as you mentioned, it could be related to the airbag light?
Thanks to Darrin @ BC Automotive:
$1800 and it was worse than when he started!

Eric I'd get that airbag light fixed as soon as possible, a co-worker of mine had an airbag light on in his work truck (ford ranger) for a while and last week he got in the truck, started it, put it in drive and turned the wheel to pull away and BOOM!! It blew up right in his face! I was standing right there, it was the funniest thing I ever saw.

Dude, disable it via the manual instructions. Don't mess with airbags.

If you unplug the seatbelt connector, it will also cut on the airbag light. The seatbelt buckle switch is used to for the strategy on airbag deployment. If you disable the lamp via the procedure in the owners manual, you won't have a problem. If you have an airbag light on, you need to diagnose it before continuing. Look under both seats near the buckle to see if someone else has disconnected the connector at the buckle to attempt to shut up the warning lamp. If the connector is disconnected, buckling your seatbelt will not do anything since the RCM cannot see the belt is in the buckle.

The fact that the chime stays on indicates that you have a fault in the system. You mention you have a D3. Did this problem occur after installation? Did you ask the dealer what they were repairing or replacing? The seatbelt and airbags function together as a system, one that I would prefer working in case of an accident. If you don't know what you are doing with it you can get hurt. As a technician I know most aftermarket shops do no have the equipment to diag airbags. Ask the dealership what they were going to do and throw that out here for disscussion rather than you were getting ripped off for 500.00 bucks.

    Let's not go here, k?

The radio in this car has absolutely 100% NOTHING to do whatsoever with the SRS system PERIOD!!!

    That's a GM thing!!!!

I think my boy was simply making a sarcastic remark about the incompetence and excuse making of some dealers.... and he'd be right.

Don't get me wrong I was not flaming the install. There is a connector for the SIR at the base of the column where the clockspring comes down containing steering wheel controls and connections for the airbag. My main point is you can not just guess at this system. I am thinking it could be something as simple as the buckle needs replaced. If there is a code it should flash with the air bag light. I'm not trying to start crap Rich, but I don't want people to take these things for granted. They will hurt you.

I posted a few threads before on the matter. It was after the installation I asked the installer he said he tapped into the sterring wheel controls behind the unit and not in the column. He never took the column cover off just worked in the dash.

The code it is flashing is 53. The dealer said it would be 500 bucks to follow the flow chart to figure out what exactly is the problem and that they would have to remove the screen to get full access. My installer is booked solid and removing the screen is costly in of itself.

Worst case I will just save 50 bucks a month and wait till next year and address it when it comes time to pass inspection. I dont like throwing money at problems but with a code 53 the tech said it could be anything electrical. I think its total crap - he said the flow chart is 3 to 5 hours and he charges 110 an hour

My reason for posting, exactly!!! I couldn't agree more.

Of specific note - and I say it all the time to keep people out of that column/clock-spring area - the VSS signal is IN THE RADIO HARNESS!!!!
