Lincoln Aviator - Almost a MM

I remember testing out the Lincoln Aviator just before I purchased my lovely Black MM. It was presented as a MM in SUV form with the same 302 hp engine.

Anyone on this form have any thoughts about owning and tuning one of these beasts? I believe they are far more plentiful than MM's and can be purchased at a good price used.

Never rode in one. I can tell you they are factory-equipped with Tokico monotube shocks (just like our MM's), whereas the rest of that generation of Explorer/Mountaineer had twin tubes. For 2006+, the Aviator got deleted but the Ford & Merc versions got monotubes

sorry.. shock dude rant not very helpful

Too narrow and too low. I do not fit in them.

As much as I hate to agree with Diabolical1 CC, I found them to be too narrow, but not too low? The interior of the Panther's are wider.

Low roof, ie no head room.

I have yet to find one without a sunroof.

    We still have our Aviator.

It is indeed narrower than the Marauder, but the Marauder does not sit six passengers as well. Nor does it tow nearly 6000 pounds.

The 5-speed transmission helps with fuel milage, but it still averages 16-18 mpg.

The base tune from Reinhart really opened up lost power and make shifts more appropriate.

Barbara had a pair of them. The '03 was replaced with the '05. Fabulous vehicles, both of them. The '05 had stability control, which saved our butts in a nasty whoop-de-doo on the interstate. When Barb traded the '03 she was getting 20mpg, but for whatever reason the best the '05 did was 18. The lease was up in September, and we let it go in favor of a Navigator, which I like better because of the inside room. 6'4" in the Aviator with the sunroof seemed a little cramped for me. I highly recommend the Aviator, it'll cool your buns ....warm 'em too .......never mind the door removal system employed upon very surprised rice boys when granny smoked 'em.

I was just looking at an Aviator tonight and wondering if it would have been as nice as the low mileage 2004 Eddie Bauer Explorer 4X4 V-8 I just bought my daughter -- which of course is basically the same thing in size and dimensions as an Aviator.

The Explorer will seat 7 normal people comfortably. But the console between the two front seats makes it feel pretty cramped in the front row seating.

I was looking at this one.... but it has 30,000 more miles than the Explorer I bought....

Get a free loaner Lincoln with every oil change or service with that Ford?

    Nope.

Dimensions are ALL they have in common.

Well, as a matter of fact, my local dealer allows me to take any demo I want while my vehicles are in for service or repair. This is not the policy for all customers, but it is for "repeat customers".

    Aviator Also

I have the Aviaotor in Silver Birch 05 sitting in the driveway. The tune from Dennis did make a world of difference. I am content with the way it performs now.
