Question FACTORY: Two inch or Two and a Quarter inch

I want to replace my stock mufflers on my '04 Marauder with Flowmasters but I am getting conflicting reports on the pipe diameter. A few PM's on this list produced replies of 2" and 2 1/4", about 50/50.
Flowmaster says it could be 2" or 2 1/4", cut the pipe and find out?
    Walker says it is 2"
Magnaflow says it is 2 1/4"
    Flowtech says it is 2"
Borla says it is 2 1/4"

I prefer to order the correct mufflers without cutting the pipe and then ordering the correct mufflers. I know the inlet is offset and the outlet is center.

    Thanks

I already know the bigger part therory, but if I purchase the 2.25" and the factory pipe is 2", I will have a 1/4" gap. I would like to install the correct size. I am looking for the actual diameter of the factory pipes so I can install the correct size.

The muffler shop will weld in the gap no problem. If you want no gap then go 2" and they can expand the pipe and just clamp it.

Go out and measure for yourself, so there is NO ONE else to blame?

    that works as well

But if you pull the H pipe off be prepared to have to replace the gaskets, or it will leak.

That explains it better! I thought the inlet pipes were 2" and the tailpipes were 2.25". I won't need to have my exhaust guy do any expanding..I'll just get 2.25" inlet/outlet mufflers.

    Thanks again!

If you read this after drinking you will have even a bigger headache.
If I gave a crap about gas mileage I would own a bicycle. With my luck I may have to go bike shopping tomorrow.

Stock tailpipes are 2¼", and the midpipes are 2" (including the inlet/outlet of the stock muffler). You can use a 2¼" inlet-outlet muffler with a reducer on the inlet and the outlet connected directly to the tailpipe. If you measure it yourself, post up the measurements with a picture please.
