Thread: Has anyone upgraded their subwoofer speaker?

Has anyone upgraded their subwoofer speaker?

After finding out how low the stock OEM door speakers are rated, I was wondering if anyone has replaced just the speaker in the subwoofer assembly? Could anyone tell me the depth and size dimensions of just the speaker? I am assuming it is probably just a 25W unit also.

    Thanks

Its a 6 1/2" speaker. There are no real replacements for it. Do a search for Infinity bass link. Some folks here went that route recently and were happy with their results.

The thin Pioneer 8 fits well. You must enlarge hole.

Did you have to enlarge the hole in the package tray?

or just the one in the trunk enclosure?

There would be more bass output with this sub but it would better with a larger amp as the factory amp does not have a lot of power. I have a factory sub here and can set it up with one of these if you want to try one.

Lowell, How long do you think this project took time wise?

Lowell posted the pictures here. It should take about a half hour to mount the sub.

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but I just got my Marauder 4 days ago and I'm new to the forum. I checked out crutchfield and they list three 6.5 subwoofers. I'm sure that there are more out there, and you can search the crutchfield part numbers and find cheaper prices on other sites.

If anyone has changed just the speaker, I'd love to hear about it and see any pics. I'm not a fan of the looks of the BassLink as I'd love to keep a factory look while improving the overall sound. I understand that the factory amp is rather small, but I could live with it. If I really wanted to go wild, then I would just throw a couple of JL W's back there in a gaudy box, but that's not my style.
