$700 NO WAY !!! The part alone should be less than $200 from the dealer or just $25 for a new OEM one here:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CROWN...spagenameZWD1V

If you are unable to install it yourself, bring it anywhere but that dealer.

The airbag and steering wheel must be removed - the clockspring does all steering wheel functions - I don't know why only ONE would quit working.

It happens, there is a ribbon type cable in them that moves every time the steering wheel turns, and eventually they wear out.

MM traded in 8/9/13 @ 128909 miles. It was fun for almost 8 years. I met airmercpun on 1/17/14. He was the new owner of my former ride. -Now gone.

Update: back in the game with a late build 03 GMGS with some MM add ons like Escape audiophile radio w/Sirius sat radio, rear sway bar, catback exhaust, and header panel.

    Super simple job to do.
BTW, anything airbag related (clock spring) has a 5 year warranty from Ford.

did you need a pulley puller or anything to get the wheel off btw? I wanna have everything before I dive into this.

Nope. When you loosen the bolt that holds the wheel on, do not take it all the way off. Loosen it to where it is near the end and then grab the wheel with both hands and pull toward you.

    Hope this helps.

$700 is way to much shop around!
around $100-200. A puller is better.
leave the nut loose on the shaft so
when the steer wheel pops you don't
pull any wires of behind.leave the nut on
flush with the top of the shaft can allow
you to tap on the shaft to help loosen it.
one person pulls the other gives it a couple of taps.
Leaving the nut on helps stop the mushroom effect
and when you do take the nut of repairs the threads
as it comes off.Don't do anything with the airbag plugged in
remove it and put it in the back seat. New clock springs come
pre aligned in the straight ahead position.
