    kooks x-pipe vs. stock h-pipe

I have a kooks x-pipe (only the x-pipe) and have read that h-pipes give better low end torque while x-pipes give better high end hp. My question is would the stock h-pipe give more low end torque than the kooks x-pipe? I realize that gains, if any, would be minimal but was curious what how the stock piece measures up against the after market piece. BTW, two high flow cats, rear cat removal and aftermarket (probably magaflows) will be added to the exhaust. Thanks.

Jon, it all comes down to what you want, do you want better flow and a little more HP (X-pipe) or do you want better sound (my opinion) and a little bit more torque?(H-pipe)

I think the X would be way better alone due to its larger size.

If you are opening up the exhaust in persuit of lower ET's, why don't you go with the maximum flow custom H pipe set up?

In my opinion a X pipe is better for the Marauder, and it can be bought seperatly, for 50.00 but full Kooks is the only way to go in my opinion.

Whomever is telling you that the "H" pipe gives you more torque is either pulling your chain or selling "H" pipes. I'm making greater than 300 ft-lbs from 2800 rpm (could be a tad lower) on up to the redline with the "X" pipe. Sound is a personal preference. If you really want more torque, stop fooling with half measures and do the whole exhaust. While you're at it, cams.

Agreed, Torque difference between X or H is not a concern. It meerely balances the exhaust....

So, in summary, it's the balancing of the exhaust gasses thet increases torque (vs. no balance at all), not whether it is and x or an H. (from what I know) Best gains with an H are achieved by locating the balance at the proper place. ??? I am sure that is true for an X as well.

The sound is different among No balance, X system and H sytem.

I saw and heard a '56 Cheby with dual 2 1/2 inch exhaust with no balance tube. Sounded like crap....

I think y'all are reading WAAAY too much into this whole exhaust thing!!!

It is "The Sound" that most of us are looking for and everyone has a preference.....I like the "H-Pipe Burble" myself!!

On N/A cars, I doubt you will see a bit of difference down the 1320 from "Stock" to any other configuration you can have built!!

On cars with power adders you may see 10 HP on the Dyno but in reality 10 HP in a 500-600 HP engine is insignificant and will not be measurable at the strip.....the driver means more than the "Dyno HP"!!! Please remember that Lidio did ALL of his "Magic" with a STOCK exhaust system!!!

Don't forget that this is not a race car but a very comfortable street car and enjoy it for what it is.....including the exhaust note of choice!!

    My $.02!!

Thank you all or the answers, they helped a lot. For those who said to just do the whole exhaust, well, that's a good idea if you have money for it all. Cash is a bit tight so I'm making my build piece by piece. And I already have a kooks x-pipe so I might as well use it, right.
