    Alternator wires melting problem

Aight, so i was driving the other day and my battery light came on, then a couple minutes later the engine just shut off. So i popped the hood to find that my charge back wire for my alternator melted off my alternator and the clip on the wiring harness melted a little too. I was wondering where i could get just the clip for the wiring harness cause i figured that the dealership would only sell the whole harness and also if anybody has an idea of what might cause this could you let me know? I have a feeling that im going to fix all the wires and its just going to do the same ting again. thanks

Go to your local FLAP's and get a premade battery cable and don't forget to remove the old alt. cables from both ends. This was a problem with older ford vehicles and would cause a fire. What are you running as far as voltage to cause that kind of draw? Did you upgrade to a high output alt. and didn't upgrade the output cable?

The other question is about stereo. Do you have an amp in the car?

Check wiring harness and alternator (diodes?) for a short circuit to chassis ground somewhere.

And how about that HID upgrade. it looks like you did the fog lights also. Any upgrades done to the electrical system will cause the alt. to work harder. You may need to go with a 250 amp alt.

yes, i have an amp and the hid's, but ive had them for two years and its been fine. would a loose power terminal connection to the battery cause this?

Yes it could. You also need to check grounds!

this is a problem that is not going to just go away, if you fix that damage the problem will just find the next weakest link, till a real fire occurs.
