    Angry Lost Compression!

Lost compression in # 8 cylinder and my Ford dealer quoted $4100 to fix it.
Anyone know of a cheaper place or mechanic in Southern Cal to fix this?
What can cause this to happen?
Don't have time for a search on this and all comments appreciated.

I had a bad compression in Number 8 too...I have the Power Train Warranty, so it was good...Do you have it too? If you do, I think you only pay like $200

What were the symptoms? Was it blatantly obvious something was wrong?

Suddenly started to lose power over 35 mph .... stuttering.
Should have known the day before when I noticed a little blue smoke coming out of the exhaust (=oil coming out!).
Anyway, lost 24% compression in # 8 and and 6% in # 5. Finally found a better shop in Wilmington to fix it rather than the dealership.

The issue I have is that I treated the car with kid gloves. Never raced, etc. or stressed the engine. Well, sometimes i would haul just a little **s, but nothing that could be considered abusing the engine.

I have 75K mi. so hopefully this will give me another 75K. What do you guys think? Any other preemptive actions needed?

When its put back together, start treating it like a stepchild. It will last longer.

I'd also look into a rear cooling mod, if anything just for insurance.

Already have it. Came with DR's stage 1.
If only CA changed it's carb laws then I could put in a Vortech S/C and that should resolve all these other issues???
