Do you still have the autolite 2bbl? If so they wear out and then act like that with the bucking/surging at low speed

How is your points gap? And, is the gap consistent through the rpm band? You might have a very tired distributor and/or advance.

Good point, if so go with the petronix upgrade that takes out the points and converts to electronic ignition but looks stock

I have the petronix kit in all my old fords. I highly recommend it over the Accel unit.
