    4R70W 2-3 shift problem

Last night I was driving and all off a sudden my car would not shift into 3rd
so I pulled over , checked trans fluid and the level was fine ,but the fluid smells alittle burnt , fluid has less the 3000 miles on it , so I start back out and at first it shifts normal ,then I come to a light , as I start it would not shift into 3rd , I have to rev it to 4k then it shifts , today I take it out to see what its doing , same thing , under normal throttle it will not shift into 3 until 4k , but if I drive with very light throttle , it seems to shift into 3rd fine , but when in 3rd it drives fine , just shifts late from a dead stop !

Also today started out from a dead stop driving down hill going 35mph and it would not shift into 3rd , stayed in 2nd and as i hit the gas it would rev like it was in neutral ?

No codes so im going to drop the pan and valve body , and look for a damaged 2-3 accumulator , if thats not it , im lost !

Any input on what it could be ! thanks

Hope its a easy fix! You said you changed the fluid 3K miles ago. Did you use Mercon V?? I heard of all kinds of tranny issues starting because of the wrong fluid. I also had the filter fall out and into the pan on my 94 GMC and that caused all kinds of shifting issues.

The direct clutch is worn. How my miles to you have on the car? Have your computer scanned for codes first, just to rule out anything electrical.

I had this problem while drive on the highway at normal speeds. The dealership replace the span ring. The car was under warranty and worked fine till I broke the stub shaft last year. Do a search on span ring on this site.

Time to see a transmission specialist.
