2004 Blower Motor

I've read all of the posts and none of you guys make any sense....

My blower stopped blowing today. 103k miles on the clock.
My gut feeling is the motor brushes are shot.
I took the plug off the motor and tested voltage.
12V DC on high...5V DC on low...
Seems that the Motor Controller is doing its job.

I plugged the motor back on, took off the vent hose
and stuck my finger inside to spin the motor.
The motor spins freely but doesn't blow !!!

So i am guessing I need a new blower motor,
but do I really need the $80 wiring harness ???
I can make my own wiring adapter with an AC power cord
and 2 pairs of Male/Female spade terminals.....
Grease them well and push them in !!!

The problem with the BCM is the pins can work intermittently and with a low current load of your meter can easily pass 5 volts and 12 volts at low current. Take 12v right from the battery and hook it to your blower motor. If it works, your issue is the BCM, don't buy a new one, remove the coating and resolder your old one making the pin contacts larger using the solder so it passes more current Then hit it with some spray clear. I reinstalled my old one two years ago or so and its still working like new.

You might wanna make sure you were testing properly. The blower motor rests at 12 volts all the time and the resistor assembly varies ground input.

In school, we learned that Voltage is distributed equally within a circuit.
Resistance varies how much voltage is applied at a particular point within the circuit.
All voltage drops among all points in a circuit must add up to the source voltage.
No if...and...or buts....

If the resistance of the motor is static, and the resistance of the resister assembly varies according to the number of resistors in the circuit at one time,
then measuring the voltage drop across the motor will vary when you change the speed (or the number of resistors in the circuit).

I'm going to take out the Blower Controller in the morning and do what you said to it.
I just may take it into work and play with it there for awhile.
Telling my co-workes what I am trying to accomplish may just amuse them a bit....
I'll also try testing the motor from the battery but after 6 years and 100k miles,
I'm thinking the motor may be shot also, but we'll see in the AM...

I told ya so , look at those large contacts, the bottom one is showing discoloration from heat.. Clean the board, there is a coating on it preventing solder from flowing, and make the solder pads larger so they pass more current. Solder good and then recoat it with some clear. The BCM will last for ever.

Test it before you reinstall it by plugging it in, then remount it once you are sure its ok..

Tested it and everything works fine.
Remounted it and I'm very happy with myself.
Saved lots of $$$$$...
