    My rear end went BOOM!

About 30,000 miles ago I had 4.10 gears put in. I bought used ford racing gears because I didn't know any better at the time and I thought that the fact that they were ford would be enough. Big mistake. I also had a brand new eaton posi installed at the same time. About 10 minutes after I picked up the car from the shop, the gears started to whine a little and stayed that way ever since. Three years later, as I'm driving to a job interview, the gear whine suddenly changes tone and got way louder and I felt a viberation. My judgement was telling me to pull over but I didn't want to miss the interview and I was only about 5 blocks away. When I got out of the interview I drove around the parking lot and the unusual noise seemed to have subsided, so I figured I would just drive home and order new ford racing gears right away. As I was pulling out of the parking lot the noise came back so I started to look for a place to pull over. I was sitting at a stop light and as soon as I hit the gas, BOOM! It felt like I hit a huge pot hole at speed enough to break a rim, but the car was barely moving. I look back and there is no pot hole. Now I notice a new noise comming from my rear, a thud every 5-10 feet or so. I imediatly pulled into a parking lot and I'm sitting in the cab of a tow truck as I type this.

Update: My car is repaired. Click here for pics of the damage.

I bought used gears too. Completely silent and perform flawlessly. I think your installer has the tolerances too close.

something wasnt set up right. gears are gears unless they had visible signs of wear they should have been fine.

As mush as I've heard about CBT, I dont think his rear goes BOOM. I think its been wallered out enough to just go "swoosh"

Sorry about your gear issue... Good luck with the interview.
I had something interesting to put here but I lost it in transition... damn... now I'll never rememeber... You know who should be maddest of all? All of you reading this because up till now you've been looking for something good. And I got nothing... Sorry.

How about more helpful info and less bulls--t to help him out in this thread? That so hard to do lately?

The guy who set up my rear lives out in Suffolk and can do it at his house , but you'll have to have it towed. Hes a perfectionist so I assure you it will be done right.

I have a trilogy kit sitting in my garage, but it's not on the car yet. The only relevant mods are the used ford racing 4.10's, a new Eaton posi, and 255/55/18 nitto 402s on the rear tires with stock width rim.

I had the car towed to my house. I got a good deal on towing through my insurance policy. First 5 miles are free and $5 for each additional mile. So what do you guys think I'll end up replacing? Is it likely the posi is destroyed? Bearings?
