After that point, forecasters said it could curve away from the coast somewhat as it makes it way north, perhaps hitting Massachusetts' Cape Cod and the Maine shoreline on Friday night and Saturday

Do they really know where these things are going????

Looks like it will come close, but forecasters are calling it a "brush". They are warning to have at least 3 days of supplied in a survival pack and to have a full tank of gas in case an evacuation is ordered. They aren't too sure about it right now, but they think it will be a "brush", but to be prepared for a good storm. People seem to be taking it seriously with taking boats out of the water etc.

The Red Cross is ready to open three regional shelters. Storm surges could be 7 feet or more, with hurricane gusts and 4-7 inches of rain. Big tourist weekend so even more traffic to deal with. I saw some out of state utility trucks today parked, waiting to respond to outages. Burt Ragio is very close to the Atlantic side (east-facing coast) of the Cape. We're on the southwest side.

Just like Bob was going to skim us in 1991 and I ended up with a 30' boat in my back yard. It was blown and carried by the storm surge from Hyannis Harbor which was about a 1/2-3/4 miles away from my house.

Now I live in Florida and realize they have no clue how to forecast where it's going but just rely on semi-educated guessing. I have been told to board my window and evacuate so many times I just don't listen anymore.

I keep supplies and plywood handy always but don't really start paying attention until about 1-2 days before they are suppossed to make landfall.

As a kid I rode out Hurricane Donna in 1960 when I lived in Fall River. Our car almost blew over on its side, pretty bad, lots of big trees down as I remember.

I guess that we here in central MA will just be receiving some rain and heavy winds. But, in the past two weeks, two big branches in my neighborhood have come down across my road and my guess they were damage from our ice storm almost 2 years ago still coming down! The winds might free up some more. I have a feeling we might get some fire calls this friday!

Do not go to a public shelter, leave the area. They are very good at forecasting where it will go, however it can change in strength in hours.

They are getting ready for the worst in Long Island. The red cross is out and prepared with shelters and food if it hits dead on.

Rita FEMA marking high water mark Avery Is, the entrance to the Tobasco Tour

I had just been on a Tobasco Tour before all this happened. I saw these 2 marking the high water mark and I ask them what are you somebody with FEMA marking the hgih water mark where nobody lives? They said yes, we just do what we are told. Realizing my statement was less then cordial I parked the car. I introduced myself. He was from TX and she was from VA. We had a good chat and I thanked them. Iasked if I could take their picture for my album, to tell their story. I think I left them on a positive note.

A little common sence goes a long way . Just prepare for for it in advance , don't wait for the last minute to get supplys. Water, batterys & canned foods are a must. Gas the cars up too & take some cash out of the bank. Remember if the electric goes out your credit cards & the ATM's are useless. Be safe.

UPDATE: Cape and Islands to receive a good hit with 15-30 foot seas. Dimishes down to just a rain storm for central MA. It is quick moving and will hit overnight and end by mid morning.
