it COULD go in to your 01 Grand Marquis. But it wont be plug-n-play

It sure can, but if you aren't comfortable with wiring diagrams, and re-pinning & splicing the connectors then you will need to find someone who is. You must wire in a tach adapter so that you have a signal for the tach. You will also need to source an extra connector from a junkyard car to source a few of the extra pins that you will need as well.
If you are comfortable with the wiring aspect of this project, then you will be fine. It requires careful planning ahead of time and a couple hours of your time to complete the actual work. The results are worth the effort. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.
