open the dif cover, pull the center pin, its help in with a small bolt on the LSD. push the axle in from the out sideremove c clip, pull axle out. be careful of the axle seal when removing and reinstalling the axle or you will be getting very good at this. reverse steps to reinstall and fill with lube

I had to change a axle stud a few years ago due to loose lug nuts and then the rim vibrating and snapping a stud. If you remove the brake rotor, there is a area in the parking brake assembly that will give you enough clearance to pop the old stud out and slide a new one in.
This was about 5yrs ago so I'm 99% positive that's exactly how I did it. The first time I had the rear apart to remove axles were when I did the gear swap which was much later on.

The ABS ring will take the most beating against the back plate, the "C" clip shouldn't be affected.

If it moves in the axle stub will be against the center pin. The "C" clip just floats and is retained by the "S" spring.

well i agree in part, the s spring does not retain the c clips, the center pin limits the axles from moving in enuff to release the c clips

the s spring keeps tension on the clucth packs

You can drive out a rear stud and put another one in without removing the axle shafts there is enough room.

For pulling the new one back through you should get a good size washer that goes around the stud and a lug nut that is not caped on the end to get the new one out all the way and seated.

Just going to be a pain using a hand tool instead of an impact gun.
