    Broken Timing chain update

ok I got the intake lid and valve covers off. all 4 chains look to be ok although the passenger side exhaust cam is locked up tight. I pulled the plugs, and they are undamaged and there isnt any damage or debris visible through the holes. thats as far as i have got so far. will pull the cam out after a few hours of sleep, and see what I can see. opinions? we'll see who is right?

    I've had two locked up....
    One was rods.
The other was bearings due to oil pump breakage.

The oil pump internals are made from powdered metal, just like the rods. Sometimes a pulley change will contribute to failure, sometimes they will just fail on their own. When they fail, the main bearings and rod bearings get spun.

Aftermarket oil pump gears are billet, as are the gears that are in the Melling pump.

    +1!

IMHO... Any rebuild should include a good aftermarket non-powdered metal oil pump.

    MARK THE CHAINS BEFORE REMOVAL!!!!!!

Try to unbolt the main chain tensioners first to get the tension off the chain first. The main chain drives the exhaust cam so if it jumped time you can get Piston/valve contact. Does the crank turn at all??

Don't bother marking the chains. This will force you to put it back together the right way. I have some instructions, PM me your email address if you're interested.
