    Ford Racing Carbon Trac-Lok Clutches

Just ordered up a set of the carbon clutches from Ford Racing. Any estimates on how long it takes to install? I just had a surprising labor estimate from a prominent speed shop of 7 hours. Seems really heavy. I already installed 4.10 gears and bearings, so I'm good on that. Thanks.

That's an easy job. Jack up the back end, pop the diff cover, drain, line up the opening in the trac-loc, pull the S-spring, C-clips, spider gears, remove the clutch packs. clean the inside out with brake cleaner (make sure it's all out/dry before you put it back together). Check for any metal filings on the magnetic fill bolt and even down in the bottom of the diff housing. Have the new parts soaking in new diff oil w/friction modifier. Reverse the order everything came out.

I love the smell of Nitromethane and rubber in the morning!
    Drag racers prayer:
As I lay rubber down the street, I pray for traction I can keep, but if I spin and begin to slide, please dear God protect my ride." -Amen

^^^^^ Yeah, seven hours seems high. It took about that long to do my axle change and clutch rebuild, but there was a BUNCH of crap (metal shavings) from the soft axle wear that was really time consuming to clean out.

Thank you Ed, appreciate it. And yes, I have done a few sets. I could do this blindfolded in less than an hour, not kidding, but let's just say "I'm busy".

Soak them in gear oil overnight, perhaps that's what the extra 5 hours were for.

    Probably true!

I called my local Ford dealer and he said price not to exceed $200. They did my 4.10's too.
Also picked up a new Ford Racing cover, new pinion seal and some Royal purple. Let the posi burnouts commence!
