    FOR RELEASE AM'S FEBRUARY 14, 1963

    Two new hardtop models with fastback rooflines and two high performance engine options will be available as mid-year additions to the Mercury line, Lincoln-Mercury Division announced today.
    The new two-door fastbacks - - the Marauder and Marauder S-55 - - are being offered in Mercury dealerships in early March. They are in addition to the Mercury Monterey with its unique breezeway roofline.
    The optional 427 cubic-inch displacement V-8 engines, which replace the 406 CID V-8's offered as options on the Mercury, will develop up to 425 horsepower.
    “These mid-year advancements reflect increased consumer preference for more sporty appearance and higher performance,” Ben D. Mills, Ford Motor Company vice president and general manager of Lincoln-Mercury Division, said.
    The new additions will give customers 37 models to choose from – the largest Mercury model selection in history. Lincoln-Mercury Division earlier announced a four-door hardtop Mercury Monterey S-55 and two Comet Sportsters - - two-door fastback models - - as 1963 mid-year offerings.
    The Mercury Marauder has a 390 CID, 250 horsepower V-8 engine and three-speed manual transmission as standard equipment. Multi-drive and Merc-O-Matic transmission and four-speed manual transmission are available as options.
    The Marauder S-55 features front bucket seats with console-mounted gear-shift and 390 CID, 300 horsepower V-8 as standard. Merc-O-Matic transmission is standard and four-speed manual transmission is available without extra cost.
    A vinyl-covered roof option is offered on both Marauders
    The Marauder 427 engine has a single four-barrel carburetor and is rated at 410 horsepower. The Super Marauder 427 engine is equipped with two four-barrel carburetors and develops 425 horsepower. Both engines are available only with four-speed manual transmission.
    Marauders will be produced at plants in Wayne, Mich., St. Louis,, Mo., and Mahwah, N.J. The 427 engines are being built at the Deaborn, Mich., engine plant.
    Manufactures suggested list price for the Mercury Marauder is $2,815, and the Marauder S-55 is $3,343. Prices include heater but do not include federal, state and local taxes or destination charges.

    I know a lot about Marauders, but I don't know enough to answer this;

    Why would Ford introduce a car called the Marauder (to raid and plunder) on Valentine's Day?
