    Dead batteries

Was just thinking about all the recent posts by people who let their cars sit for long periods of time and don't use a battery tender. How much energy does the security system use? It's on all the time. Could this be a big drain?

Not a big drain, but a constant drain. Older batteries will die quicker under these conditions. A good deep-draw battery is a good answer for cars that sit for long periods. My Jeep has an Optima Yellow Top and sits sometimes for more than a month. Always fires right up, and the stereo has the constant draw.

Let my car sit with a 7yr old battery for nearly two months, hit the key and it fired right up. Yours can't do the same then its time for a new battery.

I have an optima yellow top in my DTR ... usually works fine with driving once or twice a week, but it did poop out when I did not drive the car for a few weeks...put it on my battery tender and all is well now.

Mine sits for up to 3 months at a shot I try at least once a month to start it and let it run for 5-10 minutes, having remote start helps

You may be doing more harm than good by just running for 5-10 minutes. Need to get the motor up to operating temperature to burn off the condensation in the engine and exhaust system.

Also running it for such a short time will not replace the energy used to start the car.
