I was hoping to have my wheels in time for Carlisle, but no such luck.
I recently sent a pair of rims out to Weldcraft to be widened, they came back looking amazing. The only issue is that they were polished aluminum and will have to be sent out to match the black chrome that's on the car now.
I contacted Cal-chrome to send the two rims out to have them dipped to match. I was informed that Cal-chrome changed their formula and the color is not like what they used to have and it will not match their color that I have had for the last two years.
In fact they sent me pictures of the new formula and its not even close to what I have on the car now.
I didn't wanna send out four rims so I started checking out other black chrome finishers and came across Detroit wheel and tire and their PVD black chrome finish. In pictures it looked like it would be a close match to what I have now so I called them up and sent out the two widened rims.
Fast forward 5 weeks, I get the rims back and to my dismay, they do not match!
The only positive side to this is that I actually LOVE the PVD black chrome over the black chrome that's on the car now! They have a deep dark finish that looks amazing outside in the sun. I think they are much more dynamic and bold plus a true black chrome.
The results...
I had no choice but to send out two more of my spare rims and they were supposed to be delivered before Carlisle. I was informed a week before that they returned with a blemish and were to be refinished so I wont have them in time. I'm happy they inspect the wheels, just sucks I couldn't get them in time.
Today I called them up and they said they should be in my possession by next week. I plan on mounting them ASAP and getting them on the car. New pics to follow once completed.
