Thread: Big Brakes on a not-so-big Budget? YEP

  1. #946
I have the brackets that's it. I found a good deal on wildwood slc65 4 piston calipers and might have enough room. Co
Abuse I have 19" rims. I just don't want it to be so far off that I would need thick spacers to clear. Or go the route of using the cts-v calipers like the one guy did in this thread. I appreciate the help.

I did the big brake upgrade on the Marauder today. As I said before, I went with Raybestos R300 rotors all the way around. Wasn't wild about the bacon strip shaped slotting, but they're not bad once the wheels are mounted. Also installed Gabriel Ultras on the back since my OE shocks were leaking last year.

    I did this yesterday:

And put the front of the car up in the air as well:

Today, I got to work on the front.

Working slow and alone, it took me just under 3 hours from the first spun wrench to last wrench being put away after the road test.

Single best mod I've ever done to the car. Pedal feel is EXCELLENT. As others have said, the stops are dead even and will suck your eyeballs out of your head.

    Don't hesitate on this mod.

Thanks to Zack, Jerry, and Todd.

    You sly dog.

Someone elsewhere noted that there's 1/2" or so where the rotor is untouched by the pad. I noticed that as well, but my attitude is that I'm still gaining pad-to-rotor contact overall vs the OE stuff, and these calipers are so much better, that it's a net benefit.

I guess if you have OCD, maybe it'd be an issue, but I don't...

Of course the Corvette caliper won't fit on the Ford brake rotor completely. Come on now! Haha

The new bracket bolts on the passenger side backed out.

Otherwise, the brakes were flawless before and after the fix - including a run up/down Lookout Mountain, into Cheaha State Park, and through the sweeping passes between Chattanooga and Birmingham.

Still cannot recommend this mod enough.

(but I will be using Loctite on any and all future brake jobs...never did before...)

The rim is fine, and one of the bolts was still barely hanging on. All bolts were present and accounted for, though.

Try RockAuto. Lots of options and good pricing!

You "feel" the difference because you want to "feel" the difference. Since you just spent money on the upgrade you "have" to feel the difference

I'm looking to eliminate the double pump process I have to follow right now to get the pedal hard

Could the pads be cut back a bit or bracket be re machined to bring calipers closer into the hub ?

I've bled, re bled, computer bled, replaced the master cylinder, on and on... the pedal feels like crap...
Did you bleed the calipers before installing ?
